UNDER THE SCOPE

How pre-grading
works.

See how CardNomi checks your photos, reviews visible wear and builds a grade estimate using public grading guidance.

Scan a card ↗
01

Capture both sides

The camera finds a four-sided card outline and waits for a sharp, stable view before capturing. A green highlight confirms capture. Flip when prompted. Uploads are checked too; no manual centering guides are required.

02

Check the evidence

The model checks each side for a physical card, correct orientation, focus, glare, sleeves, perspective and all four corners. Missing evidence produces retake guidance instead of a number.

03

Inspect four condition areas

Centering, corners, edges and surface each receive observations tied to the visible photos. Original photographs are the evidence. Background removal and optional display contrast do not repair the card or add detail.

04

Apply the selected grading lens

The analysis uses public company guidance and valid grade increments. Server checks reject impossible centering ratios, unsupported grade increments and top-grade results that conflict with the evidence.

05

Keep the context

Your report includes an estimate range, photo-check results and limitations. Eight magnified original corner crops support your own review. A catalog match supplies artwork and card details; it does not supply condition evidence.

Official grading standards ↗

Reviewed 2026-10-24-company-v2. Centering is only one part of condition; meeting a border tolerance does not guarantee a grade. CardNomi does not generate official subgrades, TAG DIG scores, Pristine or Black Label certifications.

What accuracy means here.

Sharper photos, explicit evidence checks and company-specific guidance can reduce avoidable errors. They do not establish a measured accuracy rate. CardNomi has not yet been calibrated against a representative collection of professionally graded cards.

What photos can show

Border balance, visible whitening, softened corners, edge chips, clear scratches, creases and other visible wear.

What photos can miss

Shallow dents, fine holo scratches, microscopic wear, restoration, trimming and counterfeit features. Lighting and compression can hide defects or make reflections resemble damage.

The displayed grade is an estimate, not an actual certified grade. Its range describes uncertainty and is not a statistical confidence interval. Centering percentages are visual approximations, not calibrated physical measurements.

For a valuable submission, use the photos as a screening tool and inspect the physical card under changing light. Only the chosen grading company can determine its final grade.

A few useful details.

Why can the same card receive different estimates?

Lighting, focus, camera angle and image compression change the visible evidence. AI assessments can vary too. Different companies also use different scales and professional judgment. Re-scanning does not certify a better result.

Does the AI use catalog pictures to grade my card?

No. Grading uses your saved original photos and optional angles. Catalog artwork identifies and illustrates the card in your library, while condition evidence comes from your copy.

What would establish a real accuracy rate?

A representative, permissioned dataset of paired front/back photos and verified professional outcomes, separated into development and held-out evaluation sets. Evaluation should measure grade error, estimate-range coverage, high-grade overestimation and retake behavior by company, card type and photo quality. Synthetic tests only verify software behavior.
